Designed by Tim Farrant at Buzz Audio, and conceptualised over 15 years by owner Troy Kelly, The Armoury is a multi-storey recording facility with world-class customisation and specifications.
CONTROL ROOM
THE ROOM
The Control Room is built around our legendary SSL console, and acoustically designed to provide the most accurate monitoring possible by our ATCs.
The room is completely silent due to our machine room (which houses computers and power supplies) being located in a separate isolated room.
Built with a ‘room within a room’ construction, and fitted with 28 low mid-bass absorbers and extensive bass trappings, the Control Room has stunning performance, ask anyone who has been here.
Windows allow you to look in to both rooms; Live Ground and the Vocal Booth, creating an easy line of communication.
At 30m2, there’s ample room to seat eight people, along with temperature control and coffee on tap, creating an absolute dream space to work in.
THE GEAR
Customisation doesn’t even begin to describe how this room is configured - no expense was spared.
Our equipment list entails all the industry standard gear, alongside boutique choices carefully selected over years of recording.
Mastering grade monitoring is provided by ATC, industry-standard NS10s, and 5.1 Genelecs.
All rack equipment is housed in easy-to-reach cadenzas with a rolling rack full of Neve goodies specifically for drums.
Every room, every piece of hardware, and i/o is available on our patch bay.
The studio features a total of three main tracking rooms, with two isolation options.
TRACKING ROOMS
GROUND FLOOR
Our ground floor recording space was designed and built right from the slab up. Just like our control room, it utilises a ‘room within a room’ construction. The recording space is completely isolated from any outside noise, perfect for capturing acoustic performances in extreme detail.
Sonically, the room is extremely tight. This has huge benefits for recording tight low tuned drum sounds like Steely Dan or QOSTA.
Built with a completely diffused ceiling, there are NO reflections from the ceiling so your overhead microphones sound incredible, and near perfect. There are Mid Slat Diffusors sitting alongside brick walls to diffuse and control acoustics, from string instruments to drum kits.
This room is 60m2 and can accommodate a full band or twelve people, and is fully air conditioned.
It is also a brilliant space for filming content.
LEVEL ONE
Our new space is now open.
Our new Level One Live Room is our multi-role room.
Perfect for huge organic drums, it was purpose-built and tuned for this use. Level One Live Room has a huge low end reinforced nature. The ceiling is diffused in one spot so overheads are controlled, while the room verb is huge. You won’t need digital reverb in this room - think BIG 90’s drum sounds.
Level One is fully integrated into the studio below with microphone lines, video feed, and headphones.
Natural brick, vintage wooden floor and wood panelling give this room its vibe. With three large windows, the room is filled with natural light, making it a beautiful space for being creative, or capturing a perfect photo or video shoot. At 80m2 in size, with a 4m ceiling height, this room is ideal for filming or photo shoots.
VOCAL BOOTH
Our Vocal Booth is more than just another booth. It’s a lot larger than most booths, but still performs like one.
Built again with a ‘room within a room,’ it provides the perfect acoustics for voice recordings of all types, but is large enough to accommodate three performers or two amplifiers for isolation when using either of our Live Rooms for recording a band.
It has full line of sight to our Control Room and into the Ground Live room, perfect for singers performing live with a band.
Iso Options
There are two isolation spots that have mic lines in place for any larger session that may need more amps in isolation.
